Updated Puerto Rico Crime Risk Scores Now Available!

The updated scores incorporate significant enhancements to the underlying data and predictive models. Developed using Puerto Rico-specific crime data and averages, these scores provide a meaningful measure of relative risk across the island. Key updates include:

  • Expanded predictive variables. The models now incorporate additional crime-informed predictors, including enhanced measures of population mobility and socioeconomic disadvantage.
  • Updated demographic adjustments. Municipality-level demographic data have been refreshed and incorporated into the modeling process where appropriate.
  • Theory-based crime weighting. Crime types are now weighted using established criminological theory to better reflect their relationship to forecasted crime risk.
  • Improved source data. Official crime data from the Puerto Rico Police have been recently updated, resulting in stronger model inputs and improved accuracy, particularly in areas outside metropolitan areas where data provided were previously more limited.

These enhancements represent a meaningful update to Puerto Rico’s risk models and provide clients with the most current and accurate assessment of location-specific crime risk available. Customers using Puerto Rico data are encouraged to refresh their scores to take advantage of these improvements.
